Every position in the County has been carefully studied and placed in a certain job classification. Positions which are similar in the kind of work performed and in level of difficulty and responsibility are placed in the same class and compensated on the same salary range. The Human Resources Department is responsible for classifying positions and assigning them to a pay range. Human Resources reviews all County job classifications on a five-year cycle. There are many reasons for this system. It means equal pay for equal work, orderly promotional opportunities and transfers, and a common understanding of jobs with respect to title, pay, examinations, selection, and budgeting. During your employment with the County, your department may change some of your assignments. You may be assigned to perform duties which are not typical of your classification within certain limits by your MOU. If, on an ongoing basis, your assignments become very different, or more difficult with higher level responsibilities, your position may warrant a change in classification. You should consult with your supervisor or department head if this occurs.
