Pay rates for the various classes of positions are established by the Board of Supervisors. The Human Resources Department conducts surveys of other agencies' pay and benefits in an effort to ensure that County compensation is competitive in the labor market. Pay increases for classes in represented units are based on periodic negotiations with the employee unions. Most positions have a range of pay in which the employee can progress through merit increases by demonstrating competence and on-the-job performance.
