The Executive Office is responsible to the Board of Supervisors (BOS) for the effective administration of all County offices. With the exception of elected officials, department heads report to the County Executive Officer, who reports to the Board of Supervisors. As the chief administrative arm of County government, the Executive Office advises the Board of Supervisors on fiscal, policy, and operational issues.
Under direction of the County Executive Officer, Executive Office staff members carry out Board directives and monitor departmental compliance with Board-approved policy. The Executive Office Staff develop and administer the County budget and capital improvement plans, monitor financing programs, and determine the impact of policy alternatives. They also manage County Service Areas, providing such services as street lighting and recreational facilities for specific communities.
