As a County employee, you are subject to the California Government Code, Sections 3200 and following, regarding political activities. If you are employed in a department that receives federal revenue, you are probably also covered by legislation in U.S. 1501, Title 5. This may limit the type of elected office you may seek while employed in your department. In general, employees may not:
-
Use their status as a County employee to improperly influence the vote or candidacy of any person;
-
Solicit political contributions from other employees;
-
Participate in political activity while in uniform.
Employees are responsible for seeing that their political actions do not violate the law.
