The Riverside County Children & Families Commission, also known as First 5 Riverside, has been dedicated to funding a variety of services to meet the needs of Riverside County’s youngest children since 1998. Recognizing the importance of early childhood development, voters approved Proposition 10, a statewide 50-cent tax increase on tobacco products. Revenues are distributed to California county commissions based on the number of live births. Each commission determines how to effectively allocate the funds. Throughout Riverside County, First 5 Riverside funds agencies to provide child care, preschool spaces, school readiness, parent education, family literacy, and preventative, physical and mental health services benefiting children, prenatal through age 5.
