County Counsel

The office of County Counsel provides civil legal services to the County. This includes representing and advising officers and employees of the County in matters of civil concern. County Counsel conducts legal reviews of contracts, purchase and lease documents, and grants, and also represents departments in lawsuits and conservatorship proceedings. As the attorney for Public Social Services, County Counsel represents the department’s interests in cases involving neglected or abused children. County Counsel prepares legal documents and legislation for the Board of Supervisors and other County Boards and Commissions. When not in conflict with its primary duty to represent the County and the Board of Supervisors, the Office of County Counsel also represents other public agencies, including the courts, the judges, certain special districts, and school districts located within the County of Riverside.
